Blanca Suazo Debernardi

Blanca and Jesús are a couple of small coffee producers from Córdoba, Veracruz. Blanca is a fourth-generation coffee farmer, and Jesús is an agronomist. Their family has been processing conventionally washed coffee for over 80 years. For the 2022-2023 harvest, they decided to take over the family farm and begin differentiated coffee processing, experimenting with making nanolots using honeyed and anaerobic processes, as well as improving washed coffee processes to move away from the conventional line.

They currently manage two farms in the communities of San Isidro Palotal and La Cuarta Manzana del Barreal in Córdoba, where they are responsible for all maintenance, harvesting, and processing. The farms where they harvest their grains are cultivated using agroecological principles, ensuring respect for the surrounding sociobiological environment. This is a commercial polyculture, and its shade comes from timber trees (cedar, grevilea, mulato, vanillo, and huizache) and plantain.

What they hope to achieve with this project is for coffee farming to be a decent way of life for all their workers, since as small producers the entire team faces many challenges on a daily basis.
